Dear ELDDS Members,

Today 27th March 2009, we had the

Julia Gabriel's Singapore Schools Debating Championships 2009.

Our Hua Yi Secondary School Debate Team was

against Jurong Secondary School.

Venue : Nan Chiau High School

Time : 7pm to 8pm

Our Motion is,

This House would remove politician immunity from prosecution.

Jurong Secondary School as Proposition and

Hua Yi Secondary School as Opposition.

So the DRAMA!

Hua Yi Secondary School Debate Team marked their arrival with a stance of steed towards our deserving opponent, ready to strike them in their eyes! Sadly, we lost this round, eliminating our chances of going further in this competition. But we already made history this year by already making it into the Quarter Finals! We have lost with grace and blaze! Congratulations again to our wonderful Team!

They are made up of :

Matilda, the loud Hokkien accent debater with a voice to match!

Parveen, the oh so totally good Top 10 Speaker in this competition who thinks on her feet and also, intelligent!
Hamka, the overly dramatic, loud and convincing debater!
Umairah, the randomly outspoken diva and a helpful reserve!
Haziqah, the behind-the-scenes important back up planner who is a silent killer with her fabulous reply speeches!

YOU GUYS MAKE US PROUD!

WELCOMING LUNCH 2009

YO YO YO YO YO YO.

So dearest members / readers,

today March 5th, 2009

was our WELCOMING LUNCH.

To welcome our new members and juniors.

We had a JUNIOR BOOM this year!

Hmm lets count. A total of 21 Sec Ones joined us!

*applause* *applause*

I really seemed to wonder

how our dear CCA would be like in the future?

Who would be the elected the next Executive Council?

And all the achievements that we'd probably have!

WOW. The future of ELDDS in HYSS just seems brighter!

In the past years, we do hold parties in our club.

For welcoming members, graduating seniors, etc.

But due to our Drama Session, we'll just hold a LUNCH! (:

So today as usual, we have a Drama Session at 2.30pm.

EXCO members came early right after the school hours

to the ELDDS room. Yes, to set up and prepare for our dear jrs ^^

Kieran brought balloons, party poppers and such for decorations.

Haha. Jaspreet, Nadiah and some others also brought along snacks too!

I'll pay you guys TOMORROW okay! Or rather, claim from the FUND.

We blew up balloons as instructed by Kieran.

Although I'm not sure what it is for. :X

And thanks sec one JUNIORS who helped out!

As usual, I scared Mr Izzat from the cupboard.

Zombie lair. And and, Kieran and I brought up the PIZZA.

Ms Leyana is so generous to buy like.. EIGHT? boxes of MEDIUM

pizzas! Probably due to the overwhelming amount of members we have!

Anyways, THANKS MISS L.!

Yehps, they were heavy.

Carrying them up, we stopped at the Third floor to rest.

Kieran offered to carry both bags of Pizzas now, while I carry drinks!

Gee, what a gentleman! But deep down inside, he is SUFFERING!

Lawls. JK!

So the party started. Mrs Pan joined us too!

We popped the confetti thingy, AKA Party POPPER.

With a, 'Welcome to our new members!'.

If I'm not wrong.

Mrs Pan was so enthusiastic! Haha.

So we went in a circle and introduced ourselves.

Because.. we have 2 new members!

They are SING RUI & HANA!

Yes, now we have THREE Hana's in ELDDS!

After the introduction, we went on to have the LUNCH.

Haha. Yes, PIZZAs for everyone!

We ate and ate.

And saved some for Aqilah Sr., Lin Sen, Hana (3) and Melissa.

We also waited for the Cheese Popiah!

That, is definitely worth waiting!

Next, as usual is DRAMA SESSION!

Rehearsals again ^^

This time, we stepped up a little more,

by including direct actions, or gestures

especially while the Chorus

re-account and narrate the story.

Yes, it took a long time to direct about each actor,

but at least it will all come to a satisfying outcome during SYF!

(I hope.)

Finally, QiQi came with the renowned Rolls with Cheese.

Too bad, we continued with the rehearsal. Haha.

And And, now our dear Jeremy (KIERAN)

and Lily (UMAIRAH) will hold hands.

Yes, we fussed about it. Haha.

But our president sees it maturely

as only acting. How professional!

Yeah, after the rehearsal,

Main role actors stayed and we discussed about COSTUMES.

So we had Drama,

another one of those 'go into groups,

sit in a circle, Even and Odd'.

HOWEVER,

when it was the ANGRY and SAD 'game',

I am like so amazed at those who actually cried!

I mean, like I wish I had IT.

Its like you get all emotional and affected,

and you really get into character! *applause*

In the end, the point of doing the following activity

is to actually to learn to get into our characters.

We must feel how the character feels. Not just acting.

Sweeet.

Hahahahahahzxs. *snorts*

A few announcements to be taken note of.

#1- There will be a short meeting at the back of the hall after morning assembly tomorrow. Please look out for the announcement by me tomorrow.

Okay. I have actually came up with a Drama Club pledge.

But please. This pledge is not official. Its made because i just feel a need for it to be here. Well its found in my blog

HYSS ELDDS PLEDGE:

Pledge :

We, the divas of the drama club, pledge to be authentic in our ways of acting.

We vow to be more disciplined and not whine when given a role. To be able to show a variety of expressions even if it makes you look like a fool. To be able to show professionalism when a task is assigned to us. To have the capability to take critics as learning points and praises as a platform to achieve better. To be able to stay focus during the sessions.

To have the guts to shriek louder than ever when a role of being “pregnant” is given to you. To sacrifice our time and other activities so as to be committed to the club.

Being the divas of HYSS, we too vow to do our very best. To not lose hope, no matter what happens. Winning and losing will then not be our main aim but to know your weakness and our strengths to gain. To be able to create a strong bond with other members in the club. Having to be histrionic in our ways of acting, we pledge to bring glory to our school. Never to forget to have the same level of respects for everyone in the club. To treat everyone in the club with equality and justice. To not allow discriminations to occur amongst races, genders and also behaviourals. To be as one Family, in one School, in One club.

Seniors of HYSS drama club 2009:

We, as the senior divas of the drama club of year 2009, vow to uphold the responsibilities given to me. To guide my juniors along the way. To learn to accept each other’s comments and not take it to the heart. To be able to contribute as much as we can effort to make our club a more vibrant club to gain new knowledge. To act with the consequences at the back of our heads. To sacrifice our time and other activities so as to be committed to the club.

To be a good role model to the younger members so as to leave behind a clean and pleasant footstep for the members to trail along. To have an aim in mind to achieve better as the time passes by. To be able prove to the rest of the members, including the teachers, how worth the gratitude that they’ll be showing to us when we step out of the circle. Last but not least, to keep onto your composure when a problem pops out of the blue.

We, as the junior divas of the drama club of year 2009, pledge to be good boys and girls. To give a high level or respects to the seniors and never forgetting the teachers and instructors. To not play a fool during trainings and take every minute seriously. To know when to have fun and when to be serious. To have the capability to show my hidden talents to the rest of the members. To be able to prove to my teachers and friends the owrth of me being in the club. To sacrifice our time and other activities so as to be committed to the club. To contribute as I can effort to make the drama club a fun and enjoyable cca. To try to prevent getting a scolding from the instructors, teacher and EXCO members for slacking while being in the club. To learn how to stay in the circle and not be in my own dream world during trainings. And nevertheless would I forget to leave my personal problems outside of the class as I walked into the door. I vow to not show any negative attitudes during the trainings.
